All About Me--Mrs. Shugrue

Hello!
This 2025-2026 school year begins my 13th year teaching in our District and I am excited to be your teacher!

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, I attended college at the State University of New York at Stony Brook on Long Island, majoring in Political Science. After college, I had a business career in Legal and Compliance, working for various law firms and investment companies in Manhattan.

Later on in my working years, I decided to return to Rider University and attended Graduate School (in the evenings) and became an Elementary School teacher and have loved every minute of working with children and collaborating with their parents/guardians!

Married to my college sweetheart (Dennis Shugrue), we moved to New Jersey before starting our family, and have raised our 27-year old fraternal twin daughters here in a neighboring town to our District. We are incredibly proud of both of our daughters for their accomplishments into their adult lives. Lianna earned her Master's Degree in Health Administration at Columbia University and Brittany became a Speech Language Pathologist by earning her Master's Degree at Seton Hall University. Both of our daughters are now working in their fields of study, live independently near our family's home, and add much love to us all.

Our house is quite busy and our tiny Shih Tzu dog (Phoebe) adds much excitement to our family unit. I am also the caregiver of my 84-year old mom who lives nearby which keeps me busy as well.

When not teaching, I enjoy attending musical theater shows, singing, bike riding, power walking, swimming in our pool, and spending time at the beach. Mostly, I enjoy spending quality time with Mr. Shugrue and our daughters, as well as traveling. This past summer I traveled to Ireland (and returned back to England) with Mr. Shugrue, and last spring, Lianna, Brittany, Mr. Shugrue, and I traveled to Portugal together. Of course, Phoebe stayed home with our dog walker and guarded our house (LOL)!

I am looking forward to a fabulous year with my Shugrue Crew students and families.

We will be embarking upon an incredible year of learning as 3rd grade is a pivotal year in which tremendous growth academically, socially, and emotionally occurs.

I thank you in advance for your patience and support as understandably, your child may meet challenges along the way but together as we work as a "home-school connection" I am confident we will support your children and help them each to achieve their Personal Best. Mostly, we will work together to keep them happy in 3rd grade!
