Supplemental Activities for Home Instruction
Sight word Activities(trick words)
In the back of your "Stories" binder are laminated sight word mats.
Using your sight word mats, you can use play dough, wikistix, pipe cleaners, or everyday objects (cheerios, uncooked pasta, legos, etc )to build the words. We do this daily in our centers, so your children are familiar with this. They should read the word, build the word, and read it again.
Trick Word Rings
Pick a sight word from your ring of words. Use everyday materials to build the sight word. Some ideas could be to flatten out some playdough and use a toothpick or q-tip to write the word. Instead of a toothpick, you can use finger prints. You can also use finger paint to paint the words. Use shaving cream and write the words on a table with your finger. Another option is to put some flour, sand, salt, or sugar in a dish and write the word in that.
