Cuties!

This is my 36th year as an educator, twenty-five of which have been in Marlboro.

I hold a Master of Science Degree with dual certification in general and special education.

I have taught Kindergarten and second through fifth grades in both public and private schools in New York and New Jersey.

I live in the sleepy little town of Keyport, a few blocks off the bay. Aside from my teaching passion, I love to read, swim, read, hike, read, go for bike rides, read, walk just about anywhere, read, visit indoor and outdoor museums, read, travel, read, learn about different cultures and traditions, read, cook, read, listen to eclectically diverse music, and did I say read? My remarkable son, Warren, lives and works in Berlin, Germany. While I enjoy meeting him in various countries throughout Europe during the summer months, I look forward to him returning to the states.

A bit about my teaching philosophy...

Upon entering kindergarten, each child possesses unique strengths, an individual learning style, and diverse prior learning experiences. Kindergarten is the most important grade level in your child's school experience; it lays the foundation for all future learning. My goal is to develop curiosity, a desire to learn, an excitement for learning, and for each child to perceive him/herself as a successful learner.

I look forward to sharing in your children's successes this year!

Dear Defino Families:

It brings us great pride to foster a positive school culture for our entire Defino community. Teaching children the meaning of good character by being  respectful, helpful, and kind, and responding when conflict arises are top  priorities at our school. It is our commitment to actively contribute to our positive school culture through modeling, school wide initiatives, and classroom
lessons.
Along with all schools throughout the state, Defino will be celebrating the Week of Respect from Monday, October 3, 2022 through Friday October 7, 2022. Students will work with their classroom teachers and all school staff to focus on the topic of respect and practice it among their peers.
Character education resources that focus on the topic of respect will be shared with teachers and disseminated to students throughout the week.
Our school will be celebrating the Week of Respect by participating in the following theme days.

Please note that these activities are optional.

Monday, October 3, 2022: Use your head and open your mind to differences! Wear your favorite hat.

Tuesday, October 4, 2022: Pep rally for being a Blue Ribbon school! Wear blue to show how proud
we are to be a respectful school of dolphins!

Wednesday, October 5, 2022: No School

Thursday, October 6, 2022: Knock our socks off with how respectful you are! Wear your favorite pair
of socks.

Friday, October 7, 2022: Team up against bullying! Wear your favorite sports team shirt or Defino
spirit wear.

We ask that you engage in discussions with your child(ren) about the character lessons they're
learning in school and the different ways we can show respect. We look forward to continued collaboration between home and school and are excited for a wonderful week ahead celebrating this
important topic.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Nicholes
